In this video posted to Facebook on Aug 8, 2024, John Pizzarelli gives us a mini masterclass on his father Bucky’s fingerstyle technique. John Pizzarelli’s recent video performance has a lot of Bucky arrangements, and is worth a very close look for those who want to emulate the Pizzarelli fingerstyle technique on the 7 string. We even get to see “I could Write a Book” (arrangement from the album “Buck and Bud, with Bud Freeman), which is chord-melody and he solos for a chorus. He also solos for a Van Eps arrangement of They Can’t Take That Away from Me, then notes that it was Van Eps’s birthday. Here is an approx setlist:
I could write a book
Satin doll
Penthouse Serenade (When we’re Alone)
All Too soon
Don’t get around much anymore
-? uncertain of title
They can’t take that away from me
All the things you are
These foolish things
Take me out to the ballgame
Time after time
Estate
One note samba
Wave
Agua de beber (all part of bossa medley)
Rhode Island is Famous for You
You’ve got to be carefully taught
